On Tuesday, September 9, Mr. Blamer spoke to the students about the importance of having real live faith, which is our theme for the year. Using his experience with Israel archaeology and 1 Peter 2:4-5, 12, Mr. Blamer encouraged the students to be living witnesses to the work of God in the world.
The picture to the left shows large stones that had been erected as pillars in the region of Gezer, Israel. This pillars were markers for the ancient people that their gods had done something amazing for them. Bu the thing about these stones is that though we can see them today, we do not know why they were erected because we do not have living witnesses to tell us.
1 Peter 2:4-5 says that believers are "living stones" being built into a "spiritual house" with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. Believers, Peter is saying, are both the pillar stones that show that God has done something amazing and the living witnesses who can tell others about what God has done for them. So the students were encouraged to be living witnesses and walking testimonies of the work of God in the world by what they say and do.
